Ranking & Metric Filters

Ranking & Metric Filters

Overview

Ranking & Metric Filters help you focus on the most relevant data in Crosstabs by allowing you to rank rows or columns and filter results based on specific metrics.

Both features are available within a single side panel, making it easy to configure rankings and metric-based filters without leaving the Crosstab view. This enables faster analysis and more targeted reporting.

When to use it:

Use Ranking & Metric Filters when you want to highlight top or bottom performers, compare specific data points, or filter Crosstab results based on metric thresholds.

IdeaCombine Ranking and Metric Filters to quickly identify your highest or lowest performing segments while excluding results that don't meet your analysis criteria.

Key Use Cases

  • Display top or bottom performing rows or columns

  • Rank data by count or percentage

  • Filter Crosstab results using survey metrics

  • Apply Custom Metrics in Crosstab filtering

  • Combine multiple metric-based filters

  • Simplify large Crosstab analyses

How to Access Ranking & Metric Filters

  1. Open a Crosstab report.

  2. Click Ranking & Filters from the toolbar.

A side panel opens from the right, allowing you to configure both Ranking and Metric Filters without navigating away from the report.

Ranking Data

The Ranking section allows you to display only the top or bottom results within a Crosstab.

Users can choose between:

  • Ranking by Column

  • Ranking by Row

Unlike previous versions, row ranking no longer requires enabling Transpose, allowing all Crosstab chart types to remain available.

Ranking by Column

Rank data based on a selected Crosstab column.

Configuration options include:

  • Target Column

  • Ranking Type (Top or Bottom)

  • Number of Results

  • Rank by Count or Percentage

Ranking by Row

Rank data directly across rows without transposing the Crosstab.

Configuration options include:

  • Target Row or Property

  • Ranking Type (Top or Bottom)

  • Number of Results

Changes are reflected immediately after applying the configuration.

Applying Metric Filters

Metric Filters allow you to display only rows that meet specified metric conditions.

After selecting a metric, configure:

  • Metric

  • Comparison Operator

  • Numeric Value

Supported operators include:

  • Greater Than

  • Less Than

  • Equal To

  • Other supported comparison operators based on the selected metric

The Crosstab updates to display only results matching the configured conditions.

Using Custom Metrics

Metric Filters support both survey questions and Custom Metrics.

When selecting a metric, Custom Metrics are available in a dedicated Custom Metrics section within the dropdown.

This allows users to filter Crosstab results using calculated KPIs alongside standard survey metrics.

InfoOnly existing Custom Metrics are available for selection in Metric Filters.

Using Multiple Metric Filters

Multiple Metric Filters can be added to a single Crosstab.

Each filter works independently and can be configured with its own metric, operator, and value.

Individual filters can also be removed without affecting the remaining configurations.

Applying or Resetting Changes

Once all Ranking and Metric Filter settings have been configured, users can:

  • Apply Changes to update the Crosstab immediately.

  • Reset to remove all Ranking and Metric Filter configurations.

This allows users to quickly switch between different analysis views.

Chart Compatibility

Since row ranking no longer depends on Transpose, Ranking and Metric Filters remain compatible with supported Crosstab chart visualizations.

This allows users to analyze ranked data without changing chart layouts or report structure.

Important Notes

  • Ranking and Metric Filters are available within a single side panel.

  • Ranking can be applied by either rows or columns.

  • Column ranking supports both Count and Percentage.

  • Multiple Metric Filters can be applied simultaneously.

  • Changes are applied only after selecting Apply Changes.

  • Reset removes all Ranking and Metric Filter configurations.

Best Practices

  • Use Ranking to focus on the most important data points.

  • Filter using Custom Metrics for advanced analysis.

  • Combine multiple Metric Filters to narrow down large datasets.

  • Rank by Percentage when comparing proportions across segments.

  • Use Count when analyzing response volume.
