Custom Metrics

Custom Metrics

Custom Metrics let you create calculated KPIs from survey responses using formulas. These metrics can be used in Dashboards and Crosstabs to analyze data in a more meaningful way.

What are Custom Metrics?

Instead of viewing only raw responses, you can create metrics like:

  • Average scores

  • Positive/negative response %

  • Category-level scores (e.g., Leadership, Culture)

This helps you turn survey data into clear, actionable insights

Where to Find It

  1. Go to Dashboards

  2. Click on Settings

  3. Select Custom Metrics

Create a Custom Metric

Click on Create Custom Metric and choose one of the following:

By Question Type

  • Applies to all questions of a selected type (e.g., NPS, CSAT)

  • Useful for creating standard metrics across surveys

By Specific Question

  • Applies to one specific question

  • Useful for creating custom scores for individual questions or categories

Add a Formula

Click on “f Add function” (or press f) to build your metric.

Common functions:

  • Count – number of responses

  • Base – total responses

  • Sum – total score

  • Average – mean score

  • NPS Score – built-in NPS calculation

Example formulas:

  • SUM(["1", "2", "3", "4", "5"]) + SUM(["6", "7", "8", "9", "10"])

  • COUNT("1") + Average("NPS Question")+ SUM(["1", "2", "3", "4", "5"])

You can also enable “Show metric values as percentage” if needed.

Example Use Case

In an employee survey, different questions represent areas like:

  • Leadership and Direction

  • Performance and Enablement

  • Growth and Development

  • Culture and Team Environment

  • Well-being and Reward. You can create a Custom Metric for each area to track their scores separately.

Using Custom Metrics in Crosstabs

Step 1: Create Crosstab

  • Go to Dashboards → Crosstabs

  • Click Create New

  • Select your survey

Step 2: Ensure Metric is Created

Before using it:

  • Go to Settings → Custom Metrics

  • Create or verify your metric

  • Add a formula using “f Add function”

Only metrics with formulas will appear in Crosstabs.

Step 3: Add Custom Metrics

  • Go to Crosstabs

  • In Rows (Question/Property)

  • Click Select Question → Custom Metrics

  • Choose your metrics

If created By Specific Question, the question is auto-selected.

Step 4: Add More Metrics

Add multiple metrics like:

  • Leadership and Direction

  • Performance and Enablement

  • Growth and Development

  • Culture and Team Environment

  • Well-being and Rewards

Step 5: View Results

You will see:

  • Each metric as a row

  • Calculated scores (e.g., averages)

  • Easy comparison across categories

When to Use Custom Metrics

Use them to:

  • Create category scores

  • Track key business metrics

  • Compare different aspects of a survey

  • Standardize reporting
