Copy & Move Questions in Survey Builder

Copy & Move Questions

Overview

The Survey Builder allows users to quickly duplicate or rearrange questions while designing surveys. Instead of recreating similar questions manually, users can clone existing questions or move questions to a different position within the survey flow.

These actions help speed up survey creation, maintain consistency, and organize question sequences more efficiently.

The Clone Question option creates an exact copy of a question, while the Move Question option allows users to reposition questions anywhere within the survey.

When to use it:
Use these options when you want to duplicate similar questions or reorganize the survey structure without rebuilding questions manually.

IdeaUse cloning when creating repeated question structures such as NPS, CSAT, or rating questions with slight text changes.

Key Use Cases

  • Duplicate existing questions quickly
  • Reorganize question order in surveys
  • Build repetitive survey sections faster
  • Adjust survey flow without recreating questions
  • Improve survey structure and readability

How to Use Copy & Move Questions

How to Access Question Actions

  1. Open the Survey Builder
  2. Hover over the question you want to manage
  3. You can see the Move Question beside the settings icon
  4. Click the three-dot menu (⋮) or the Move Question icon

Available actions include:

  • Clone Question
  • Delete Question

Clone a Question

The Clone option creates an exact copy of an existing question.

To clone a question:

  1. Click the three-dot menu (⋮) on the question
  2. Select Clone

Once selected, the system automatically creates a duplicate of the question directly below the original question.

The cloned question retains:

  • Question type
  • Question text
  • Logic configurations
  • Answer options
  • Formatting and settings

This helps users quickly create similar questions without rebuilding them from scratch.

NotesCloned questions behave independently after creation, so changes made later to one question will not affect the other.

Move a Question

The Move Question feature allows users to reposition questions anywhere within the survey.

To move a question:

  1. Click the Move Question icon on the question
  2. The selected question becomes highlighted
  3. A message appears prompting the user to scroll and select a new position
  4. Scroll through the survey and select the desired placement slot
  5. Click the highlighted placement area to move the question

Once selected, the question is repositioned instantly within the survey flow.
This helps users reorganize sections and maintain better survey sequencing without deleting or recreating questions.
InfoWhile moving a question, visible placement slots appear between questions to indicate where the selected question can be placed.

Reorganizing Survey Flow

Moving questions is especially useful when:

  • Adjusting the order of survey sections
  • Improving logical flow between questions
  • Reordering follow-up or conditional questions
  • Restructuring long surveys after edits

Using the move functionality helps keep the survey organized and improves respondent experience.

Warning
If logic or dependencies exist between questions, review the survey flow after moving questions to ensure logic paths still work correctly.
